La Bruguera is a unique eco estate, for retreats, holidays and events. Fully-modernised from 2015 – 2019, it was built between 1978 and 1981, for Catalan landscape painter Francesc d’Assís Casademont “Le Vieux”, a friend and contemporary of Salvador Dalí’s.
The guest house consists of 6 twin bedrooms, and 6 bathrooms: two “suites” with en-suite bathrooms, and 4 bedrooms with adjacent bathrooms.
The former Casademont Art Gallery was beautifully renovated in 2017 for creative, active and well-being related activities.
The villa rests near the top of a gentle slope, and the holm oak and pine forest has been cut away in places to reveal views over the trees towards the Gavarres hills, and nearby olive and cypress groves. There are five different outdoor tables to choose from, a glass pavilion for table tennis or massage and treatments.
This region is rich in art, history, medieval architecture, fresh produce, gastronomy, wine and beer making, whilst providing an unparalleled variety of landscapes, from sandy beaches, rocky coves, river corridors, extinct volcanoes, mountains and even rice paddies!
We were hot and tired, when we pedalled into La Bruguera, during the Girona Cycling Festival. As soon as we were through the gates, calm descended. We were served fabulous cake, drank delicious coffee, and plunged in the wonderful pool. Mike and Michelle seemed to cope with the invasion of cyclists with style and grace, and made our cycling gang feel so welcome. When we departed, we were cool, calm, de-stressed, and primed to pedal!
We ran a yoga retreat at La Bruguera de Púbol. The space is generous, beautiful and also practical. As were our hosts! We appreciated the easy communication, their flexibility, warm welcome, and sensitivity to people’s needs. All accommodation, kitchen, practice space and the grounds are so beautifully designed, with an artistic eye, providing a wonderful sanctuary. It was lovely to be able to walk the grounds and visit Púbol between practice sessions. A heartfelt thank you Mike and Michelle.
The guest house and grounds are unique and absolutely beautiful. Mike and Michelle were so very helpful to us, before and during our stay. They made dinner and vineyard reservations for us, arranged for Chef Roger to cook a delicious dinner, recommended beaches and other sites, introduced our grandson to their chickens and bunnies, and shared yummy vegetables from their garden. We appreciate their commitment to sustainability and respect for the environment. The beaches are an easy drive and there are many other sites are relatively close which makes this property not only a quiet escape but accessible to a wide variety of experiences. Thank you, Mike, Michelle and family one of the most memorable vacations we have taken.
